ESQUIMALT – Fred Proctor believes the discrepancy between business and homeowner property taxation is medieval. Proctor says he feels like a peasant who pays for taxes with nothing in return. Proctor’s tax bill for his company Wilson & Proctor Ltd. is almost 000 this year. Proctor says he pays for his own garbage pick up and none of his 14 employees are benefiting from the 000 he pays in school taxes. The Canadian Federation of Independent Business, of which Proctor is a member, would like to see the taxation ratio reduced to 2 to 1 for businesses. Victoria Mayor Dean Fortin says establishing the ratio is complicated, but the city leaders look at the services provided and the owner’s ability to pay. Fortin says property tax is just part of doing business. He points out business owners can write off a portion of their property taxes while homeowners can not. In 1950, as the post-war economy began to recover , American businesses spent $5.7 billion to advertise its goods and services. By 1960, that amount had doubled to $12 billion. By 1970, American business was spending $20.

Between 1970 and 1990, as the children Baby Boomers became adults and began earning and spending, advertising expenditure went through the roof, so that by 1986, it had reached $100 billion.

That phenomenal rate of growth could not be sustained, but by 1999, total expenditure on all forms of advertising exceeded $215 billion . The latest available figures are for 2007 and they stand at $280 billion.

In 1999, nearly 60% of all advertising dollars were spent on adverts in newspapers, magazines, on the radio and on television. By 2007, that figure had fallen to about 54% as the Internet started to have an impact on advertising trends. These trends are expected to continue as every firm is expected to have its own website these days.

The nation’s largest advertisers are the manufacturers of cars, food, soft drinks, tobacco and beer and they filter most of their expenditure through about 13,000 advertising agencies., who normally create the ads and acquire the space or air time from the media too.

These agencies have been transformed over the last decade by mergers. The most lucrative advertising agencies these days are huge international concerns. WPP, the largest advertising agency in the world, billed $37 billion in 2008 and had this to say about itself:

“Our total revenue in 2008 surpassed that of all our competitors, regaining the No.1 worldwide position for the third time”.

I recall living at home with my parents (both whom have gone to be with the Lord) , they always had a garden. Personally I always looked at gardens as a big waste of time. I could go get a bag of peas from the grocer that would have taken me a couple hours to pick and shell not to mention all the time it takes to cultivate, fertilize, water and pull weeds. Gardens just felt like work and I could always think of more productive ways to spend my time.

The same happened in my Network Marketing / MLM Home Based Business with Leads. I started with persons I knew and then after about a year I turned to leads to build my MLM. I have paid out close to 200,000.00 in advertising in the past decade and 6 months ago if I had stopped buying leads I would have found my personal recruiting come to an immediate stop. The idea of creating my own leads brought me back to my garden days with my Dad – No thanks! Toooooo Much Work!!!!!

Problem with Purchased Leads:

* Leads often cost 3.00 or more – so they are expensive if your conversion is poor.
* 95% of all the leads you buy are either broke; don’t believe in themselves enough to start an MLM business; are looking for a job; let fear stop them from taking on challenge
* Have no relationship of trust with you so their guard is up.
* Can be very discouraging – calling lead after lead that is rude plus getting the phone slammed in your ear all day can be very taxing.

When you take the time to generate your own free leads you are establishing a relationship with your prospects and they are being drawn to you. You don’t beat up your wallet because the leads you generate were essentially free from article submission and from your video posting. Once your content is on the net it is there forever. You do the effort one time and continue to benefit from it week after week month after month. Growing your own leads has a cumulative effect since each piece of content you post gives you just that much better credibility with Google and you continue to see your positioning improve with time.

This is not an activity for the people out to get a fast buck and leave. The thing I love the most about this approach is that people see your content for extended period of time you gain their trust. Rather than you needing to spend every waking hour calling people who don’t want to talk to you, you focus your time on returning calls from people wanting to speak with you. Spending your time with people that actually want to have a conversation with you about your marketing system and or business can leave you with a very great sense of fulfilment.
